Companies in Singapore, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Riyadh compete for the same small pool of senior engineers, and salaries reflect it. Many solve this by pairing an in-house product lead with an offshore engineering team in India. Done well, you get senior talent and faster delivery at a sustainable cost. Done badly, you get missed deadlines and code nobody wants to maintain. The difference is mostly in how you choose and set up the partnership.
The time zone advantage
India Standard Time is 2.5 hours behind Singapore, 1.5 hours ahead of the UAE and 2.5 hours ahead of Saudi Arabia. In practice that means a full shared working day with both regions. A team in India can join a Singapore stand-up at 10am local time and a Dubai review at 3pm local time on the same day. Compare that with teams in Europe or the Americas, where overlap is a few hours at best.
What to look for in a partner
- Relevant work you can click: live products, not just screenshots, ideally in your industry or with similar integrations.
- Senior people on your project: ask who will actually write the code and meet them before signing.
- A visible process: weekly demos on a staging link, a shared backlog and written updates you can forward to your management.
- Comfort with your rules: experience with Singapore PDPA, Gulf data protection laws and hosting in your region.
- Honest scoping: a partner who pushes back on scope is usually more reliable than one who says yes to everything.
Choosing an engagement model
- Fixed scope: best for a well-defined MVP or module. You agree deliverables and price up front.
- Dedicated team: a stable group of engineers working on your product month to month, managed by your product lead.
- Hybrid: a fixed-scope first phase to build trust, then a dedicated team for ongoing development.
Contracts, IP and data
Make sure the contract assigns all intellectual property to you on payment, includes confidentiality terms and a data processing agreement, and specifies where code and data are stored. Production data should stay in your cloud account in your own region, with the offshore team given only the access they need. Insist that code lives in your own GitHub or GitLab organisation from day one.
Working rhythms that work
Plan for your weekend as well as theirs. Saudi Arabia typically works Sunday to Thursday, while the UAE and Singapore work Monday to Friday. Agree core overlap hours, a weekly demo slot and a single channel for decisions. Visiting each other once early in the project, a short flight from either Singapore or the Gulf, builds trust faster than months of video calls.
Start small, then scale
A two to four week discovery or prototype is the cheapest way to test a partner. You will learn how they communicate, how they handle ambiguity and how good their code really is. KenStack works with clients as a senior remote team based in Trichy, India, across custom software, web, mobile and AI projects, and we are happy to start with a small, fixed-scope first phase.
